Richard LeVene

The guest lecturer will be Richard LeVene, retired chairman of Theatre Department at Florida Southern College.The lecture/seminar will expose the students to a lecture concerning the reasons, both theatrically and dramatically, behind the realistic movement which has become the most pervasive movement in theatrical history.Subsequently, the students will be involved in seminars examining the two playwrights most influential in the early development of this movement.LeVene suggests that you read Henrik Ibsen's, "A Doll House" and "Ghosts," as well as Anton Chekhov's "The Sea Gull" and "The Cherry Orchard" to get the most out of the lecture/seminar.

Richard LeVene has a B.A. in Speech and Drama from the University of Nebraska, Omaha and an M.F.A. in Theatre Performance from the University of Georgia.The theatre has been a part of Richard's life since he started working for a summer theatre in Illinois while still in high school.After spending several years working as a professional actor/director he found himself as Chairman of the Theatre Department at Florida Southern College.He recently retired from that position and now calls Sarasota home.
