The book, which has never been available in the Jim Ned library, was taken from the collection in Tierce's classroom, said Jim Ned Superintendent Kent LeFevre.
What may come as a surprise to many is that "Child of God" was on Jim Ned High School's list of approved reading materials for pre-Advanced Placement ninth grade English students.
The lists of approved books for each grade level are generated from a collaboration of Advanced Placement teachers and the school's librarian, LeFevre said, but the teachers don't have to have read all the books on the lists."Child of God" was placed on the list this summer.

LeFevre said none of the teachers or administrators at the Jim Ned school district believes "Child of God" is appropriate for freshmen.

LeFevre, who has been very careful in his responses about Tierce, opened up when asked about Rhodes.

"Our community has always been close-knit and I can't see this having any negative long-term effect," said LeFevre, the superintendent.
