Paul Lawton's presentation will cover several little-known U-boat operations in New England waters and the basis behind the unending rumors that the U-853 had been carrying a valuable cargo when she was sunk off Block Island.Mr. Lawton will uncover the truth behind several of New England's highly publicized U-boat wreck hoaxes, and reveal the true story behind the fabled Prince Edward Island U-boat wreck.Mr. Lawton will also bring to light some shocking details about the last U-Boat operations off the American Northeast coast, and how the legacy of one such boat's Commander helped change the future of submarine warfare.
SPEAKER BIO:
Paul Lawton was born on 13 December, 1963.He graduated from the Stonehill College in Easton, MA with a degree in Political Science and received his Juris Doctor degree from New England School of Law in Boston.After serving as an assistant prosecutor and later assistant in-house counsil for a major insurance company, he joined his family practice where he has practiced law since 1992.

Mr. Lawton has also taught a number of community service classes at Massasoit Community College in Brockton, MA, including New England's U-Boat Wars, among numerous others.Mr. Lawton has also conducted countless lectures on those subjects at museums, schools, for the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard, dive clubs, and many others.
Mr. Lawton has had a number of articles published in various publications in North America and Europe, and holds copyrights to numerous historical works regarding German U-boat operations, naval and maritime matters, and weapon systems.He is considered by his peers to be one of the world's foremost authorities in the area on naval weapons systems, the Battle of the Atlantic, and German U-boats and U-boat operations.
Mr. Lawton has re-written several chapters in naval and maritime history, including a U-boat incident off Prince Edward Island, Canada (which will be one of the topics of his presentation), and the history of sinking of the US sub-chaser USS Eagle (PE-56) by U-853 off the coast of Portland, ME, among many others.His work on the USS Eagle also resulted in the belated issuance of Purple Heart Medals (49 posthumously and 2 to living survivors), to the casualties of that disaster.
