Pursuing excellence as a lifestyle, Pastor Ed Lapiz of Day by Day Ministries challenged Summit delegates to become excellent citizens as God shaped them to be.

Referring to Luke 2:52, Pastor Ed said excellence should be seen in physical, mental, social, and spiritual aspects of life.He also emphasized that the youth should not waste any opportunity to excel."Do not equate your youth with liability and weakness," he said.Instead, the youth should "know their gifts and follow someone gifted."

Pastor Ed explained that a gift is a natural strength performed with passion."When you minister (through your gift), people are edified. You have peace and others have peace too," he said.

The youth should also accept criticisms of intelligent persons to continuously sharpen their gifts. But Pastor Ed clarified that it takes experience and wisdom to develop the youth's gifts, and so they should invest more time in reading good books and getting engaged in healthy conversations.

While youth excellence is deserved and demanded by God, the country, community and family also need it for nation building."The love for God is a love for the nation given by God," Pastor Ed said.

In 1987, Pastor Ed, with some church leaders including Bro Dexter Andres, discussed his vision of incorporating the fellowship as an evangelical congregation in the Philippines. It was designed to continue ministering to the members even when they returned to the country. The idea was warmly received, first by this small group, and then by the whole fellowship.A name for the church had to be chosen.Pastor Ed suggested "Day By Day" for its meaning, repetitive poetic sound, strong consonants, and impact.

My long-held 'rebellious' belief was confirmed when I came across a book by Ed Lapiz, a Protestant pastor, whose main premise is "God wants you to be rich," and cites several Bible passages to prove it.

For instance, Mr. Lapiz cites 1 Timothy 6:17: God, richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.
    ...
Mr. Lapiz also cites the Bible's five-point teaching on money:

First, that money is to be earned.Proverbs 13:11: Dishonest money dwindles away, but he who gathers money little by little makes it grow.
