   Those who see the need to house the valley's low-income workers -- from field workers to landscapers, bank tellers, bus drivers and resort employees -- must counter the loud voices of opposition, Peggy Sue Lane, a vice president at Stewart Title of California, told a gathering of real estate agents and builders in Cathedral City.

   "You and I need to be part of the solution," Lane said.She suggested that businesses, real estate professionals and others form a coalition to support affordable housing projects that are presented to city councils and planning commissions.Currently, she said, political bodies are hearing primarily the arguments of those who don't want low-income housing near them.
   
   "Cities are required by the state to provide some level of affordable housing, but a communitywide NIMBY (not in my back yard) attitude persists," Lane said at the State of Real Estate in the Coachella Valley Summit attended by about 400 building-industry members.
