Before moving to the Coffs Coast, studying Interior Design and starting Colour me Simple Kate had a varied and often exciting career in event management, community programming and recreation.Studying at university part time from 1985 to 1990 Kate headed up a Special Populations Unit for the Dept of Sport & Recreation. She worked in youth development and events co-ordination in local government organising every thing from rock concerts to large 17 day sporting events involving thousands of participants during the Australian Bicentennial year.
Kate was Executive Director of the NSW Sports Council for the Disabled where she took on the challenging task of marketing and promoting sporting opportunities for people with disabilities.Kate's creative talents were a great asset to this position as she went about creating a new image, organising large dinner auctions, developing new marketing strategies and attracting funding and sponsorship.
Kate thrived in this fast moving creative environment loving every minute of the organising, marketing and promotional development. She was in her element when creating posters, producing brochures, advertising, designing displays, presenting marketing concepts, making promotional videos and developing new logos.
This was an exhilarating and challenging career, rubbing shoulders with politicians & sporting greats, doing media interviews and attending gala events was exciting and fun but a change in pace and a new direction was needed.
The beautiful Coffs Coast beckoned and in the early 90's Kate and her family migrated north; and so began the renovation and building bug.
Kate became very active in her community getting involved with the local Chamber of Commerce as Vice President & Promotions Officer. She once again started doing marketing, promotions and community events all whilst renovating and building.
Kate was at her happiest when surrounded by colour swatches, carpet samples, bricks and tiles. She found herself helping friends and family with colour selections and was delighted when a house they had built was a finalist in the Housing Industry Awards.
Kate started to see a need for affordable colour consultancy, choosing colours came naturally to Kate and she loved doing it.She was surprised as to how many people found the idea of choosing colours for their home daunting and the whole process overwhelming.
Kate's many years of creating images, marketing & promotions could be an advantage in the world of colour consultants. She had also studied units in graphic arts, taken a course in floral art, attended advanced lead lighting classes and was now studying interior design.
Kate had also studied for her certificate in Real Estate, having local real estate knowledge and an understanding of Council regulations and zonings is an advantage when working with home builders & renovators and when dealing with developers, architects and designers.
This all culminated in 2005 when Kate started Colour me Simple an affordable colour consulting business providing simple solutions to colour selection.
