Mr. Lane was a graduate of Breese High School and a 1954 graduate of Illinois State University. He received his master's degree in education from Illinois State in 1956. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He began his career as a school teacher in Flanagan. He was a grade school principal for Deland/Weldon and Deere Creek/Mackinaw School districts and later high school principal for Fairbury/Cropsy and Bradford School districts. He came to New Windsor in 1979, where he was Winola High School principal until retiring in 1989.
His memberships included the New Windsor Presbyterian Church where he was an elder, trustee, choir member and confirmation teacher. He was a former member of Cozy Haven Homes in New Windsor and the New Windsor American Legion.
