According to Parker County Heritage Society President Gregg Lane, Weatherford has several events in store."We want to observe the week and celebrate our community's heritage," he said.
    ...
The marker will be placed on the sidewalk in front of Chandor recognizing the couple's contribution to the garden's future, Lane said.

The Bradfords bought the Chandor mansion and surrounding gardens in 1994 and spent eight years restoring the gardens to their original splendor.Since, the city purchased the mansion and works to maintain the hidden getaway for visitors. The dedication, however, will be a private event for the Bradfords.

"What the Bradfords did for Chandor Gardens and what the city had done by making it available to the public has opened its doors to a whole new generation," Lane said.

Society members are also meeting with county officials next week to recognize their commitment to the recently restored Parker County Courthouse.

"The Parker County Commissioners Court has really worked hard to make that project a reality," Lane said.

Inside visitors will find a replica of a restored 1889 Parker County abstract map.The society and Civic Development, Inc. sponsored the restoration of the original map at the General Land Office In Austin and has loaned it to the courthouse for display.

"In order to ensure that our past is not lost in our movement toward the future, we need to make a dedicated effort to preserve and secure all the elements that have made and continue to make Weatherford an attractive place to live," Lane said.

The society is also working to compile a list of both endangered and restored properties in the area.Nomination forms for eligible properties will be available at the Weatherford Chamber of Commerce, 401 Fort Worth Highway, and City Hall, 303 Palo Pinto St.

"While we realize that economic development is key to securing the city's financial future, it is imperative that it not be at the risk of losing what we were founded upon," Lane said.
    ...
"As our leaders plan and develop the course for our city's future we need to work with them toward a common goal of preserving our small town heritage, even as we grow into a larger urban community," Lane said.
