   Dr Cathy Lane is interested in sound and how it relates to the past, our histories, our environment and our collective and individual memories.This informs her current work as a composer, sound artist, lecturer and researcher.Aspects of her creative practice has developed out of these interests and concern composition with spoken word, field recordings and archive material and writing and lectures on these and related subjects.
   
   Much of her recent work has been collaborative.

   Cathy Lane is a co-director of CRiSAP.Previously she established the department of Sound Art and Design at the University of the Arts, London and still teaches undergraduates and supervises research students.She is leading the development of an MA in Sonic Arts to start in January 2008.
   
   Cathy Lane has a PhD in electroacoustic music composition from City University.

   Cathy Lane has an ongoing interest in sound, memory and history which has lead to projects such as "Hidden Lives" (a multi channel site specific sound installation) and "The Memory Machine" (an interactive sound installation premiered at Cybersonica at the ICA, London in 2002 and further developed for the British Museum exhibition The Museum of the Mind: Art and Memory in World Cultures in 2003).
   
   More recently, she was invited to work as a visiting artist with students in India to produce a site specific installation exploring local history in Bangalore.She has written and delivered papers on this area in Organised Sound, The Oral History Journal and at Sound Practice.Her previous electroacoustic music works have explored the metaphorical use of space and gesture as a compositional parameter.Other works include compositions and sound design for large-scale outdoor theatre productions, film and video soundtracks, live performance and installation work.Cathy also has ongoing collaborative relationship with choreographer Rosemary Butcher which resulted in numerous works, most recently, "White" a performance installation premiered at the Muffathalle, Munich, Germany in February 2003 and "Undercurrent" a dance film, selected in 29th International Eletroacoustic Music and Sonic Art at Bourges 2002.
