Carrie Lane, the United States Track Coaches Association 2004 Mondo Women's National Assistant Throws Coach of the Year for NCAA Division I track & field, begins her third season at Virginia.In 2006, Lane coached redshirt sophomore Billie Jo Grant to a second consecutive All-American honor in the discus, while also coaching NCAA East Regional qualifiers Yemi Ayeni and Amy Bilmanis in the discus.

Lane has created a buzz around the ACC by recruiting the finest throwers in the country and re-establishing Virginia as a throwing power.She has held a summer throwing camp in Charlottesville the last two years and has hosted such promient guests as current World Champion and U.S. National Shot Put Champion Adam Nelson and Olympic Gold Medalist and World Record Holder in the hammer throw Youri Sedykh.
Under her guidance in 2005, Inge Jorgensen won her fourth ACC title in the javelin and earned All-American honors for the third time, while Lane helped red-shirt freshman Billie Jo Grant take home top honors in the discus as well as an All-American citation in that event.

Lane, who worked at Coastal Carolina for five years, helped the Chanticleers to the Big South Triple Crown by winning the women's cross country and indoor and outdoor track and field championships, a first for Coastal track and field.Lane also coached senior Amber Campbell to five NCAA All-America certificates, including a third-place finish in the 20-pound weight throw at the 2004 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships and a third place finish at the 2004 U.S. Olympic Trials.

Lane also coached freshman Thomas Jordan who advanced to the NCAA Outdoor championships in the javelin throw, the only freshman in the country to qualify for the national championships in the javelin.

Lane came to Coastal Carolina after serving one year as a graduate assistant coach in track and cross country at Eastern Illinois University.She earned her Master's degree in Sport Management from Eastern Illinois in 1999.
Prior to going to Eastern Illinois, Lane was a member of the track and cross country teams at Marquette University.She helped the Golden Eagles to a national ranking as a sophomore in 1995.She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Affairs from Marquette in 1997.
After graduation, she served as an assistant cross country coach at Milwaukee Vincent High School, head junior varsity girl's basketball coach at Shorewood High School in Milwaukee and was the acting academic coordinator at Marquette.Lane also served as the director of Shorewood's cross country and basketball camps.
