   Tory John-Lennis Landry was only planning to spend a year at Baton Rouge Community College before transferring to a four year school.
   
   "However, after attending BRCC for a semester, experiencing the atmosphere and seeing that the teachers actually showed interest in my personal successes, it made me not want to leave. My advisors also expressed to me the advantages of getting an associate degree so I could always have something to fall back on" Tory said.
   
   Tory, originally of Lafayette, Louisiana, said he chose to attend Baton Rouge Community College because he viewed it as a stepping stone that could better prepare him for a four university while giving him the same learning experience in a smaller and more personal setting.
   
   "It was also far away enough from home for me to gain independence but close enough for me to still be comfortable" Tory said.

   After two years of juggling school, work, time with family and his position as SGA president, Tory graduated with honors receiving his associate degree in general studies with a concentration in business in 2006. He cites the BRCC faculty and staff as being a source of personal encouragement while pursuing his degree. Teachers and staff showed true interest in his success by often stopping him in the hall to check on his status in school and challenge him to do his best both in and out of school.
   
   Since graduation, Tory has enrolled in Louisiana State University where he is majoring in marketing. His future plans are to get his bachelor's degree in marketing, get a master's degree in business administration and eventually open his own marketing and advertising firm.
   
   In his spare time, he enjoys writing short stories and poetry, working out, playing basketball, politics, reading local business reports, and spending time with family and friends.
