PICAYUNE - Architect David Landry of Landry & Lewis in Hattiesburg last night presented the school board with preliminary plans and tentative costs for a face lift, new roof and expansion of the Picayune Municipal Separate School District's central offices.

The expansion, which may not be very noticable from outside the building, will provide space for the district's technology department that plans for and maintains computers and other technology for the district's campuses.

However, the new roof and new facade will give the building an entirely new look, Landry told the board at its meeting last night.

Landry warned the costs he povided are very preliminary and may change as the working drawings are developed.

David Landry, president of Landry and Lewis Architects, P.A., in Hattiesburg, bucked the trend somewhat.Landry said there is no architect or particular school or style he admires.His approach is more open book.

David Landry's 30 years of experience have been targeted toward the technical aspects of architecture.He is particularly adept at quality control , building standards and life and fire safety code compliance.He is an experienced technical specialist , reviewing documents many times during various stages of project development , ensuring strict conformance with original programming and design criteria and to provide concise and complete documents.David has demonstrated particular expertise in the design and production of educational institutions , having worked on numerous school and college facilities ranging from the Allied Health Center at Pearl River Community College's Hattiesburg campus to the Family Y , and the Pine Grove Recovery Center.His recent work has included involvement in the production of construction documents for a series of new academic and classroom buildings for four different campuses of the Lamar County School system and a new 300-seat cafeteria for PRCC in Poplarville and the renovation of Crosby Hall at PRCC , transforming that historic collegiate structure into a new student center.He is currently observing the construction of a new $ 11.1 million Oak Grove High School for Lamar County Schools , a new facility for the Presbytarian Christian School in Hattiesburg , Mississippi , and an addition/renovation for Poplarville Middle School for Poplarville Municipal Special School District.He is currently working on projects for Cellular One in Hattiesburg and Laurel , Pearl River Community College , Lamar County Schools , Lumberton Schools , Poplarville Special Municipal School District , Forrest County Board of Supervisors , Perry County Board of Supervisors , and multiple projects for Hattiesburg Clinic.

Landry said Lamar County residents can expect to see construction projects start during the next school year.

He said the first projects could be multi-purpose centers in Baxterville and Oak Grove, additional classrooms at Oak Grove and the fine arts building in Purvis.

Architect David Landry of the firm Landry & Lewis updated the board on a series of repairs underway at district schools.

He said reroofing at the Center for Alternative Education will take six weeks to two months to complete, and that the work is moving ahead carefully because of a number of "bubbles" the roofers have discovered.

"You may get some leaks from this, but the roofers are working carefully to avoid puncturing the bubbles," Landry told the board.

He also said the contractor for the work at the Bertie Rouse building should have the drawings for that reroofing job completed soon and that it shouldn't take more than a "couple of weeks" to get the materials on site to begin the job.Meantime, the contractor is struggling to get the building made water tight.

Landry told the board, in response to a question from member Duane Wheat, that it would cost about $900,000 to build a 60-foot by 120-foot multi-purpose building at Nicholson Elementary School.
