Landriault said the sale was in the works for a long time, and is good news for Magic.

"As an independent, you're always fighting against these conglomerates," he said, adding the sale will "secure Magic's future for a long, long time."

Dennis Landriault, president of Big Pond Communications - the company that owns Magic 99.9 - couldn't comment on the change because he didn't know the details.

He did say Magic won't be changing, even if the new KIXX ends up competing directly with it.

"Let them play follow the leader," Landriault said."We're very focused, we know where we want to go, we believe that the people of the city like what we have.

"Magic has established itself. . . . Obviously, we have put a dent in them (KIXX)."

Dennis Landriault, president of Big Pond Communications - the company that owns Magic 99.9 - said Thursday he's not overly concerned by the possible change.

"They're basically following what we're doing, and that's OK," he said."Competition is good. We'll continue doing what we're doing."

He did say the loss of a country station would leave a void in the marketplace.

In fact, Landriault said he and some other city businessmen made two offers via phone and e-mail to Newfoundland Capital to buy KIXX.The first was turned down, and the second is under consideration, he said.

Landriault made the offers before he heard about the format change, saying he's been interested in purchasing KIXX since Magic was started up.He would keep it as a country station, however.

He's also looking to purchase stations in other markets. He couldn't say if all would be run through Big Pond.
