YORK , Maine - Elizabeth E. Landis , 68 , of 46 David Drive , died Wednesday , May 16 , 2001 , at her daughter's residence after a long illness
Born Jan. 24 , 1933 , in Arispe , Iowa , she was the daughter of Henry A. Sr. and Cleo ( Capps ) Engrav. She was a graduate of the University High School , Iowa City , Iowa , and received a bachelor of fine arts degree at the University of Iowa.
She was a self-employed antiques dealer , most recently with her business at the Blacksmith's Mall in Ogunquit.
She resided in Sharon , Conn. , for more than 30 years and was a founding member and past president of the Carousel Doll Club of Kent , Conn..
She and her husband formerly operated the Off Broadway Downtown Theater from 1955 to 1960 , on 4th Street and 2nd Avenue in New York City. She also operated the Sharon Playhouse in Sharon , Conn. , and acted as director , business manager , costume designer and co-producer. She worked in theater in New York City and received many accolades for her costume designs.
She volunteered in her children's and grandchildren's schools as a designer for numerous school projects.
Survivors include her husband , William Lightner Landis of Concord , N.H. ; one son , William L. Landis Jr. , of Hamden , Conn. ; two daughters , Mrs. Charles ( Elizabeth-Anne ) Platt of York and Mrs. Charles ( Maura ) Willing of Concord , N.H. ; one brother , Henry Arthur Engrave Jr. , of Van Buren , Ark. ; one half-sister , Phyllis Gerich ; four grandchildren ; and one niece.
