Landers, who has been a NALPA member for the past 20 years, has served on various NALPA committees. He served as the Area 4 Vice President for two years and was a member of the Executive Board for an national two years, before being elected to the office of President.
Landers was active in the formation of a press association in the Department of Oklahoma. This has been one of the projects he has worked on for the past two years, and he finds that it has now become a reality.
Landers has the experience that it takes to lead the national organization, having served for four years as Division 4 Vice-President for Tex-ALPA, and as their President for two years.
Landers plans for the 1997-1998 NALPA year is to have more participation in the "Best Papers" contest. It is the desire of his administration to see that more posts in The American Legion are aware of the importance of a post publication. He wants "more participation from the Auxiliary, the Sons of the American Legion, and the publications from the Districts, the Counties and the Departments", he said.
"These are exciting times," Landers stated."With more and more Legionnaires coming on line, and wide with the advancement of the technology in today's society, we are able to disseminate more and more information about the world's greatest veterans organization, The American Legion."We are indeed fortunate to have the cooperation of the National PR Division in our quest to make this the world's most informed veteran organization.
The National American Legion Press Association is a proud organization made up of the American Legion's finest journalists. We have set a goal this year for that elusive 2,000 members and 1,200 publications.A dream perhaps?

I look forward to great accomplishments with our NALPA team under the leadership of President James Landers and Executive Director George Hooten.
