10. Tasers: Myths, Truths and Their Respective Uses - Sergeant Brian Landers (WJOA) For several years police tasers have been publicly debated among law enforcement, media, and the general public alike. Recently the Wisconsin Department of Justice called upon its Tactical Advisory Committee to examine tasers and determine their role and use by Wisconsin law enforcement officers. In this presentation, Sgt, Brian Landers will provide information as to the truth about tasers and what the state is doing to calm public fears and provide proper training to police officers across the state. This presentation will include a brief history of tasers, what they do to a human body, taser myths, training concerns, and the future role they play in our state. Special attention will be provided explaining police in-custody deaths after taser use, and the use of tasers on juveniles. A live use of force and taser demonstration will be provided. Videos of actual police taser use in the field will be shown. A question/answer period will follow. Sergeant Brian Landers is a 14 year veteran of the Wisconsin Dells Police and a veteran instructor of 14 areas of law enforcement training topics including police tasers, firearms, and tactical response. He currently serves on the Department of Justice Tactical Advisory Committee to the Division of Training and Standards. He is also employed by Madison Area Technical College as the lead instructor for their Defensive and Arrest Tactics programs.
