"I've also talked a lot with (current RMS principal) Lon Bernth and (Ralston High School athletic/activities director) Dan Mussmann and had time to talk to Kathi Krzycki a little about what we're doing for next year."

    Krzycki named new RMS principal
    ...
Kathi Krzycki, a 30-year veteran of the Papillion-La Vista School District, will succeed Bernth effective Aug. 1.
    ...
"I'm very excited to have this opportunity," Krzycki said Monday after signing her contract. "I'm looking forward to beginning the transition process, meeting with the staff and helping to ensure that everything goes as smoothly as possible."

Krzycki will come to Ralston off a four-year stint as principal at La Vista West Elementary School. Prior to her work as an administrator, Krzycki served three years as a CADRE associate and was also a classroom teacher at Papillion Junior High for 23 years.

She is a graduate of Kearney State College and received masters? degrees in curriculum and educational leadership from Doane College.

Krzycki said she is a strong advocate of, and hopes to continue, Ralston?s tradition of service as a smaller school district able to give more individual attention to its students and staff.

"I believe in the smaller school atmosphere, that ability to give kids a feeling of success and get them off to a good start," she said. "Especially in the middle school, it's important that we are attentive to the needs of those students as their bodies and their brains grow."

RMS assistant principal Mitch Mollring has already begun the early phases of the transition process with Krzycki and she will be attending a state conference of middle school educators later this month.

At that time, Krzycki said she will meet with some RMS faculty and be able to converse with her new staff, further perpetuating an easy transition period.

"I really come from a team belief," she said. "If we come at this as a team, we'll be able to move that much faster and get any obstacles out of our way so we're ready to go."

This summer, Krzycki said she also plans on sending out letters and questionnaires to incoming seventh- and eighth-graders at RMS to introduce herself and to get to know her students.

"That's the truly important part," she said.

Kathi Krzycki is the principal at La Vista West Elementary and knew about the impending search warrant the same day it took place, she said Monday morning.

"They told us about the arrests that day so that when we saw the police cars we would know what was going on," she said.
