Amber Kruse , director of sales for the Holiday Inn , Holiday Inn Express , and Hampton Inn in Moline and the Holiday Inn and Hampton Inn in Davenport offered a Distressed Passenger Rate of $40 a room , plus tax , for any of the five hotels.
About 60 passengers filled five hotel shuttles during the first hour and more passengers were filing a sixth van later , Ms. Kruse said.
Among those stranded were three business men from Brazil who were aboard a United Airlines flight from Chicago to Phoenix.They said they were employed by a mechanical aviation firm in Brazil.They planned to return to Chicago and book another flight to Phoenix as soon as possible , they said.
``Things could be better , '' one of the men said.
