The parent of two Baylor School graduates, Ty (2001) and Catherine (2004), Alice appreciates the school's emphasis on developing the whole person. Both her children loved Baylor, "blossomed academically and athletically" while here, and grew in character as well. Now a sixth grade teacher, Alice wants her own students to take advantage of the many opportunities that Baylor offers.
Students in the sixth grade come from many elementary schools, bringing with them a variety of math learning styles and experiences.Alice sees it as part of her job to welcome those styles and experiences while teaching the strategies and skills required for success in the Baylor math curriculum. She enjoys presenting problems that have "lots of ways of coming up with the right answer", and she encourages her students to listen to each other as those methods are explained. She loves the enthusiasm of the sixth graders; they are "eager to participate in all kinds of activities and they want to do things well".

Alice grew up in Chattanooga, the oldest of five children (teaching seemed a natural choice for someone with four younger siblings!) She graduated from Notre Dame High School and received her degree in education from UTK.Before joining the Baylor faculty, she taught third grade at St. Jude Elementary School, was an English instructor at McKenzie College, worked for a company that provided computer instruction for pre-school children, and then taught at Bright School for eight years. She has participated in many workshops and educational conferences, the most recent of which was the National Conference for Teachers of Mathematics in Anaheim, California. She says that with each one, she comes back excited and ready to try some of the wonderful ideas and lessons that were presented.Though she is not as busy now with her own children's activities and athletic events, she still enjoys attending a variety of Baylor athletic events, cheering on those who are still wearing Baylor Red.In her spare time, she enjoys reading, running, and playing golf.
