Former Chambers County Sheriff Monroe Kruezer, who was defeated in the 2004 Republican primary after one term as the county's top lawman, filed in the Republican primary on Monday to run against incumbent Jimmy Sylvia for county judge.

Kruezer has a long record of public service, which includes stints as mayor and councilman for Anahuac as well as serving as chief of Anahuac's volunteer fire department.He worked as Anahuac school district's transportation director before being elected as sheriff in 2000.
But after a tumultuous four years as sheriff in which several lawsuits were filed against the department over brutality and misconduct and several deputies, including Kruezer's chief deputy, were fired.Republican primary voters chose retired DPS sergeant Hugh Sigers over Kruezer to represent the GOP in the general election.

But Kruezer said he is confident the voters will see past the litigation against the department under his tenure, suggesting that much of the controversy generated during his tenure was political in nature.
"I think I could bring some things to the commissioner's court," Kruezer said."Some of our roads in our rural areas are getting pretty deplorable.
