Mr. Dalibor Krpan of Croatia, an Auditor of the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF), published a book recently on ¡°Taedo,¡± a special program of exercises created on the basis of some of the principles of Taekwondo for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis.
Taedo is a kind of combination of classical gymnastics for osteoporosis and elements of Taekwondo exercises, based on the performance of controlled movements with energy directed contractions of the muscles in the course of certain movements.
Krpan is a medical doctor specializing in bone diseases.A professor at the Medical Schools of the Universities of Zagreb and Osijek, he has been studying metabolic bone diseases for many years.
He said in the book written in English ¡°the idea of initiating the Taedo program aroused as a kind of synthesis of my many years of active involvement in Taekwondo and many years of my clinical experience treating patients with osteoporosis and other metabolic bone diseases.¡±
¡°In creating a system of exercises the opinions of the patients were taken into consideration about various forms of exercise, along with the experience of a one-year experimental Taedo program with a group of patients,¡± he went on to say.
The Taedo system consists of two levels of courses, the basic course of exercises and advanced courses.The book, titled ¡°Taeo,¡± illustrates each motion of the exercises in color picture with detailed explanation.
In a letter sent to WTF President Chungwon Choue lately, Krpan said ¡°how to improve the quality of life is one of the most important goal and the big challenge for our civilization.
