Jim Krosschell of Blackwell Science talked about the launch of publisher-owned start-ups as well as society-owned ones.In both cases the editorial team is absolutely key and the field must be ready for growth.Industry support is critical to making publisher-owned start-ups work, and Jim believes societies planning to launch a journal must have at least 500 members and be growing.

Jim Krosschell is the newly appointed vice president and publisher of periodicals at B.C. Decker.The newly created position fills an important need in the company for full-time executive direction of the division, while taking ad-vantage of Jim's excellent industry experience.

Jim has been VP Publisher at Blackwell USA with responsibility for its journals program.In this capacity he oversaw nearly 100 periodicals publications, including many that he acquired for the house.Jim will be stationed in Newton, Massachusetts, a suburb of Boston.He will spend considerable time in Hamilton during the first month or two, then will establish a pattern of visiting one week monthly for first-hand discussion and meetings.

Managers in production, electronic publishing, new media, sales, marketing, accounting and customer service will have a reporting responsibility to Jim.

He will also become a member of the Executive Committee.

New Congress UpdatesSince the final announcement of the Congress was mailed there have been some new programs added: "Meet the Professor Sessions" each on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, April 29, 30 and 31, 1996.These sessions are limited to 40 each session.Also, three free sessions have been added on the subject of "New Developments in Systemic Therapy of Breast Cancer".These will be held on Sunday, April 28, 12 noon to 3:00 p.m. and 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., and on Monday, April 29, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. All members of the Society are eligible for a reduced registration fee of $350.00.
