Mr. Michael Kramer began teaching at Lutheran High School of Orange County in 1982, where he served as English Language Arts Department Chairman for over 15 years and taught most of the courses in the department's curriculum.He pioneered honors programs at Lutheran High, offering the course now titled Enriched English: The Classic Tradition as the school's first honors course and Literature in the English Language: Studies in Forms as the schools second Advanced Placement course.The faculty voted him "Teacher of the Year" in 1995.He currently teaches Studies in Forms (AP) and English Literature and Composition (English III).He has written curriculum for Orange Lutheran Online and has also taught for OLO.Under his advisement, Lutheran High's literary magazine, King Author, has won national awards.He coaches the Lancer Quiz Bowl team.He is listed in a number of Who's Who's and professional directories.
He began his teaching career after a B.A. from Central College in Pella, Iowa, an M.A. at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, and additional graduate work at the University of Cincinnati, all in classical studies.He first taught high school at John Carroll High School in Dayton, Ohio, and then returned to California to teach a St. Michael's Preparatory High School in Orange County.
His publications range from professional publications ("Things That Don't Work," Lutheran Education, vol.130, no. 1), to numerous poems in nationally published literary journals and four poetry chapbooks (most recently After the Waking Time from Swan Duckling Press).
Kramer is a member of the Academy of American Poets and has conducted numerous educational workshops for both the Lutheran Educators Association and the convention of the California Association of Private Schools Organizations (most recently three sessions on teaching the reading and writing of poetry), The La Habra Public Library, and the Placentia Public Library.M.C. Bruce has hailed Kramer as "one of the top poets" in Orange County, a distinction recognized by the 2002 Orange County Poetry Festival.
