Duane S. Kobayashi is an associate in the Patent and Technology Law practice group and a member of the firm's Litigation department.He joined the firm in 1999 and is resident in the Reston office.

Mr. Kobayashi's counseling practice focuses on the strategic creation of patent portfolios for emerging-growth companies.Mr. Kobayashi's experience covers a wide range of technologies , with emphasis on computer software , network security , cryptography , computer graphics , digital signal processing , telecommunications , microprocessor architectures , and electronic commerce.

Prior to joining the firm , Mr. Kobayashi was an associate in the software patent group of Morgan , Lewis & Bockius LLP.Previously he was an associate at Sterne , Kessler , Goldstein & Fox PLLC , and an Examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.Before entering the field of patent law , Mr. Kobayashi was an electrical engineer at Bell Communications Research.

Mr. Kobayashi received his law degree from George Mason University in 1997.He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree , cum laude , from Wheaton College in 1991 , a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering , magna cum laude , from Case Western Reserve University in 1989 , and a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University in 1990.

He is admitted to practice in Virginia and the District of Columbia and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office , and is a member of the American Bar Association and the American Intellectual Property Law Association.
