Among this year's thirty plus volunteers is Ako Kobayashi, a Reading Partners tutor at Fall-Hamilton.A native of Japan, Ms. Kobayashi has lived and studied in both France and the United States.Before entering Owen, she worked for Mitsubishi Electric as an international marketer.She states, "My career goal is to become a product manager for an internationally marketed brand."
In an interview recently, she shared career aspirations as well as communicated the great value she places upon service to the community.As one of four members of the 100% Owen Executive Committee, she does her part to ensure the organization's mission.This year she recruited 35 fellow students to assist students in reading.Mid-day each Thursday she goes to Fall-Hamilton to tutor Marchelle, a second grader in Michelle Stout's class.Of her relationship with Marchelle, Kobayashi says, "It is very rewarding to me to see her beautiful smile when she sees me.There is nothing that motivates me more than that."She is confident that she is doing good things in her work with Marchelle.Of Reading Partners, Ako states, "It is an excellent program for people who want to feel the direct impact of their contributions.Try it.You'll love it."
