Georgetown County Sheriff A. Lane Cribb has appointed 32-year-old Harvey Knox as head of criminal investigations.

Knox served 10 years in the U. S. Air Force as a military policeman.He left the Air Force in 1997 and became a Georgetown County sheriff's deputy and rose to corporal of patrol, later promoted to sergeant of investigations and now as captain of that unit.

The Georgetown County native grew up in the Plantersville community and graduated from Choppee High School in 1987.Knox has two daughters, ages 4 and 11.

Knox was chosen to lead the investigations unit when former Captain Daniel Blackmon resigned to accept the position of chief of the Andrews Police Department.

The bodies of Thomas and Cameron were found inside the charred remains of the structure by Johnson and Georgetown County sheriff's Investigator Harvey Knox.
