One fire was set inside of the building lobby, another outside the lobby and the third around the corner of the building not far from the office of Charles Gibson, chief of the Contra Costa Community College District Police, said college spokeswoman Chrisanne Knox.
The photos are not sharp, but appear to show the man pouring liquid on the floor.
The district's police force patrols Diablo Valley College, Contra Costa College in San Pablo and Los Medanos College in Pittsburg.
The fire gutted the building, causing between $500,000 and $600,000 in damage, Knox said. The police department is temporarily being housed in a conference room in the business and foreign language department.
