Jody Knowles started working here in the mid-1970s as a high school junior after school and on Saturdays.She also worked a summer after she started college.
She moved to Charlottesville, Va., in 1990.She works as corporate trainer for Wintergreen Resort, Wintergreen, Va., and is the former public relations director of the Plow & Hearth catalog company, Madison, Va.
When I saw a recent article that Charlottesville had been named the "best place to live in the USA" I asked Jody to write about what it's like to live there.

In the column, Jody talked about the vibrant downtown scene with shops and restaurants, music on Friday afternoons that brings out everyone from business executives to young "townies."

As Jody says, though, a place to live is what you make of it.
