Library Marketing and Program Coordinator Jan Knotts commented, "Over the past year, the library hosted 571 programs, including computer classes, author visits, storytimes, and concerts that were attended by 21,764 children and adults."She added, "Area residents made 406,585 visits to Hickory libraries last year and 425,198 items were checked out.

Mrs. Knotts gave out packets including a calendar for May.Adult programming is ending with the exception of computer classes and the summer focus will be on children.Mrs. Knotts asked the Board for suggestions for adult programs for summer.With regard to summer reading program, she thanked the Friends of Library groups who contribute greatly to the success.A promotional program for the Summer Reading Program is always taken into the schools.This year they are taking Ben Franklin.

Janice Knotts, coordinator of the program at the library, said, "Funding from the North Carolina Humanities Council helps us to provide this outstanding program each year.No matter what the theme, each year participants find this program to be educational, informative, and mind stretching, but mostly it is enjoyable , a great way to spend an evening."

The North Carolina Humanities Council is a nonprofit foundation and state-based affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities dedicated to promoting free public programming in the humanities across North Carolina.
