    Clinical Professor of Surgery

    Dr. Stanley Knoll received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1964 from the University of Pittsburgh and his Doctor of Medicine from the Chicago Medical School in 1968. He obtained his surgical training as Intern, Resident and Chief Resident in Surgery at The George Washington University Medical Center, from 1968 to 1974.

    In addition to conducting a full-time practice of surgery, Dr. Knoll is Clinical Professor of Surgery at The George Washington University Medical Center. His involvement in the education and training of medical students and surgical residents provides the stimulus for Dr. Knoll's scientific publications. Dr. Knoll lectures frequently locally and internationally on thyroid and parathyroid diseases, breast cancer, laparoscopic surgery, and hernia repairs. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He has also utilized his academic experience as an Associate Examiner for the American Board of Surgery.

    Dr. Knoll also enjoys special experience and interests in many administrative and consultative areas of medicine. He is Medical Director of the International Medicine Program at GWUMC. He has consulted, operated and lectured abroad in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, the United Arab Emirates, Viet Nam, Malta, and Dominica. He has been a consultant to the U.S. General Accounting Office and Medicare on Surgery Outcomes and Target Expenditures. He has served on the Executive Council of the Metropolitan Washington Chapter of the American College of Surgeons, and is Past-President of the Washington Academy of Surgery. He was President of the DC-IPA, and served on the Board of Directors of its parent HMO - Health Plus, now a part of Aetna Insurance. He has been on innumerable committees at his home institution at GWUMC, including the Executive Committee of the Faculty Senate, the Medical School Education Council, and numerous search committees for chairmen and executive dean and vice president for medical affairs. He is currently on the Faculty Senate and the Committee on Continuing Medical Education of the GWUMC, the Board of Trustees of the George Washington University Hospital, the Operating Room Committee, and is Chairman of the Hospital Quality Council. Dr. Knoll is Past-President of the Attending Physicians Association of GWUH.
