Ranger Knight heard Nidever and McKone calling for help, but could make out little of what they yelled.Using the P.A. on his patrol vehicle, Knight and Ranger Dylon Parks were able to ask a few basic yes-or-no questions, but answers were difficult to hear due to the distance and echoes, and many questions got no response at all.Knight and Parks eventually managed to find out that the party was injured, had no light source, and was high on the wall, but they could not tell which route the party was on.

A light could also have been useful as an initial means of communication with Knight, since voice calls were nearly impossible to understand (one flash for no, two for yes, etc.)
Although Nidever is an experienced climber, McKone was not skilled enough to get them off the wall on her own.
