Biographical Information

Dr. Klusa is Professor, Department of Pharmacology, Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis, Riga, Latvia.She received her Ph.D. in pharmacology from Tartu University in Estonia.Her thesis examined the interaction of chemical analogues with nicotinic acetylcholine receptors.She pursued postdoctoral training at the Laboratory of Pharmacology of the Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis and received a postdoctoral fellowship to the Institute of Physiology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in Sofia.She later received a D.Sc. from the Institute of Pharmacology, Moscow, for her work on the neurotropic activity of peptides and short protein fragments.Dr. Klusa then conducted research in the Institute of Drug Research of the German Democratic Republic's Academy of Sciences in Berlin.Prior to obtaining her current position, she was Professor and Head of the Laboratory of Peptide Molecular Biology and Pharmacology at the Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis.Dr. Klusa is working in collaboration with Jarl Wikberg, M.D., Ph.D., a Professor at Uppsala University.
