He was sent in to replace the regular officer earlier this year after he severely injured his shoulder breaking up a fight between two teenage girls.

Kirchner said he responded to an escalating argument among six students in the hall between class periods on March 21.Teachers, administrators and monitors also responded and tried to separate the students.

Kirchner said he thought the situation was getting under control and he was beginning to ask Aponte what happened when the teen allegedly threw the punch.The melee began to escalate again.The hall was filled with students and Aponte would not back down, Kirchner said.

That is routine every time someone is stunned, Kirchner said.

Bethlehem Township police officer Brian Kirchner noticed a large fire about 3:20 a.m. and a man whom Kirchner later identified as Daly on the balcony of the Pierce Street house throwing objects into the fire.

Kirchner also saw Aquilino standing near the fire with others and holding a fire extinguisher.

When Kirchner realized the flames were 20 feet high, he called city police and ran to the fire, and the crowd scattered.
