Pete King, vice president of finance and operations for Grandview Medical Center, said the land was purchased from Synergy REIT, a subsidiary of Beavercreek-based developer Synergy Building Systems, for $1.15 million about a month ago.

The land, near the Interstate 75 and state Route 73 interchange, will be used for future developments, King said. He said it will likely be used for an ambulatory care center similar to what Kettering opened in Lebanon last year, costing around $4 million to $5 million to build.

"It's certainly not going to be another hospital," King said.

Pete King, vice president of finance and operations for Grandview Medical Center, said as the economy began to worsen last year, more patients declined or held off on surgeries and procedures recommended by their doctors.
    ...
King said hospitals are seeing more patients come through the emergency room, but fewer on an elective or non-urgent basis.
    ...
Nevertheless, King expects the decline to balance out in the second half of the year, when people feel they can use up their deductibles and health savings accounts. But until then, there is no way to know what will happen.

"We are at the mercy of the patients," he said.

The two-building center will include physician offices and hospital services, such as imaging, physical therapy and lab work, said Peter King, vice president for finance and operations at Grandview Hospital.King is leading the project for KMCN, which includes Grandview Hospital and Kettering Memorial Hospital.

The first phase will be a $7.5 million, 45,000-square-foot building that should be occupied by Sept. 1, 2005, said Jerad Barnett, vice president of Synergy Development, which KMCN has contracted to develop the project. The second building will be the mirror image of the first, he said.

Barnett said the land and building costs make it a nearly $18 million project.

King said he expects about 10 primary care physicians to move into the building when it is completed, although more specialists and other primary care doctors will follow, he said.

Doctors in the Beavercreek area wanted a new building where they could offer a more complete range of services, King said.

"It should be improved care and convenience for their patients," King said.
