"We probably could have done the Denver thing, but we all decided it was a serious hobby, not necessarily a career," said guitarist Peter King.
The five-piece band was voted Best Of Summit for four years in a row by the Summit Daily's readers poll and has played consistently in Summit and surrounding counties every weekend during the winter seasons - especially during their heyday from 2001-2005.
But The Burn, named for the run at Breckenridge's Ski Resort, will bring its seven-year reign to an end, playing its final show of "high altitude mountain funk" on Friday at the South Park Saloon.
The band's lineup has remained consistent since its beginning with one exception. Along with King, guitarist Scott Williams, keyboard player Mike Lovely and drummer Matt Cole have been jamming under the name The Burn since 1998.

The breakup comes on the heels of several members going in different directions, which King described simply as, "life happening."
They created a CD, "Burn One," in 2002 with 10 original songs. They will be giving away copies at the show and it's also available on their website.
Although all the band members have always had full-time jobs, they still made it out to rehearsals and shows with smiles, which King attributes to "the anticipation of being able to perform something you created, and being recognized, even locally ..."I think we're successful because we have a good time," King said.
