Jan King, Board MemberSelf-taught, Jan introduced herself to music with the piano at age seven, then dabbled in guitar off and on for the next 23 years until taking up guitar "for real" at age 30.She began her career in 1976 with the all-girl band, Spitfire, and moved to L.A. in 1979 to sign to MCA Records and record with the all-girl band, the Orchids.

Jan continued to do session and studio work and play in bands in L.A. until 1995 when she moved to Chicago, where she has continued to form and play in several bands.She is currently in the band Shrieking Violet and teaches guitar, principally to young women.
