Andrea KingAndrea King serves as Vice President at Van Scoyoc Associates, Inc. (VSA).King joined VSA in 2003, after 17 years as domestic policy advisor to Representative Richard A. Gephardt (MO).In addition to assisting Representative Gephardt with his legislative activities, King managed domestic policy initiatives on his behalf in his role as Democratic Caucus chair, House Majority Leader, and House Democratic Leader.
King played a central role in major legislative initiatives in many areas, including health care, education, welfare, and seniors' issues.Among these initiatives were numerous Medicare and Medicaid bills, health care reform, Patients' Bill of Rights, Medicare prescription drugs, long-term care, childcare, welfare reform, education reauthorizations, and education reform.In 1993, King was appointed by the Speaker and Leader to serve as House leadership liaison to the Clinton administration Healthcare Reform Taskforce.
King also served as leadership liaison to the Caucus member taskforces on healthcare, homeland security, education, welfare reform, and children.As such, she worked closely with Democratic members on Caucus initiatives.She also worked closely with the Senate leadership and members on joint House-Senate activities.
King originally joined Representative Gephardt's staff as an American Philosophical Association Congressional Fellow, after having taught philosophy at a college in Baltimore.King holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy from Goucher College and a doctorate in philosophy from Georgetown University.
