EAST NORTHPORT, NY - JULY 1, 2003 - The McDonald's New York Tri-State Owners/Operators Association announced today that Susan Kim of East Northport is one of five winners who will receive a $5,000 McDonald's "Serve Your Community" scholarship.Through the Serve Your Community scholarship program, McDonald's owners/operators offer $25,000 to five college-bound Tri-State area high school seniors.Winners were selected based on their community service records, a 300-word essay on "How they bring the McDonald's mantra of giving back to the community to life," academic transcripts, and financial need.
Kim graduated from Northport High School in the Class of 2003, and will be attending Yale University, where she will be pursuing a degree in international relations.She is an active volunteer in her neighborhood, where she has dedicated more than 1,000 hours of community service since her freshman year.Among some of her accolades include, Student Class President; Northport High School representative for "Our Town 2000," a student run community service organization; Huntington Youth Court Advisory Board member; Key Club President; and Chairperson for Peer Tutoring.
