   Richard Y. Kim is a partner in the Intellectual Property Department of the Washington, D.C. office of McDermott, Will & Emery. Richard concentrates his practice on trademark prosecution, counseling and litigation. Prior to joining the firm, Richard was an examining attorney with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, where he also served as a new attorney training instructor. He received an award for Examining Attorney of the Year for 1999 by the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA). Previously, Richard was an attorney in private practice where he dealt with a wide variety of cases including corporate and commercial law, real estate, civil litigation, immigration, workers' compensation and personal injury. Richard earned his bachelor's degree in history from the University of Virginia in 1990 and his law degree from Boston University School of Law in 1995. He is a member of the Virginia State Bar, Intellectual Property Section and is proficient in Korean and Spanish. Richard is admitted to practice in Virginia and Maryland and before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
