Michael Kim is CTO for property/casualty insurance operations at the Hartford (Hartford, CT) insurance company.He's responsible for application and information architecture, the "innovation lab" internal IT consulting group, and the company's data warehouse and services.

Originally from Korea, Kim moved to the U.S. as a small boy."As an immigrant, I was typically instilled with values that gave me a hard-work ethic and really made me strive for success," he says.He was competitive in athletics as well as academics, and graduated from Yale University (New Haven, CT) in 1989 with a degree in economics.

After college Kim went into general management consulting, focused on the financial services industry.Along the way he's been a management consultant at several companies, CEO of an early-stage collaboration software company, and a partner at Tillinghast (New York, NY), the global insurance and financial services consultant, where he launched and led the firm's e-business efforts.

Kim has been with the Hartford for four years now, giving full play to his passion for technology and enjoying the company's collaborative work environment."My job is to be sure the people I work with have the support and tools to succeed," he says.

Michael Kim is the Chief Technology Officer for The Hartford's property-casualty insurance operations.In this stewardship role of the IT assets, Michael is responsible for the application & information architecture, the Innovation Lab, internal IT consulting group, data warehouses and data services supporting all the property-casualty businesses.Prior to joining The Hartford, Kim spent three years as the CEO of an early stage collaboration software company focused on the financial services industry.He also spent 12 years as a management consultant at several firms including the former Coopers & Lybrand (now IBM Global Services) and at Tillinghast -Towers Perrin.At Tillinghast, he served as a partner who launched and lead the firm's eBusiness efforts.

Michael Kim has spent the past 12 years consulting to companies in the financial services industry.Prior to joining Converit, Mr. Kim was a Partner of Tillinghast Towers Perrin, a consulting firm focused exclusively on the financial services industry.He was most recently head of Tillinghast New Ventures (TNV) the firm's financial services incubator.TNV focuses on launching new enterprises that provide technology-based solutions to the financial services industry.As the architect of Tillinghast's e-business strategy, Mr. Kim also launched and led the firm's e-business practice on a worldwide basis.Prior to joining Tillinghast-Towers Perrin in 1995, Mr. Kim worked as a consultant in the financial services strategy practice at Coopers & Lybrand, LLP and at First Manhattan consulting Group (a financial services specialty consulting firm) as well as the Strategic Planning department of Keycorp (super-regional commercial bank).Mr. Kim is a frequent speaker at conferences including ones sponsored by American Banker, American Council of Life Insurance (ACLI), Insurance Services Organization and the Health Insurance Association of America (HIAA).In addition, he has published numerous articles including most recently in Best's Review entitled "Leaping the Digital Divide" (February 2001).He holds a B.A. in economics from Yale University. back to the top
