   BRANDON, MB - Brandon University is pleased to announce the appointment of internationally renowned pianist and teacher Dr. Michael Kim as Dean of the Brandon University School of Music.
   
   "I am very pleased that Dr. Kim has agreed to join us as the next Dean of Music," says Brandon University Vice President, Academic and Research Dr. Scott Grills."He brings to the position administrative experience supported by an extended and impressive performance career.It is essential that the School of Music be lead by a Dean whose record of personal accomplishments is on par with the reputation of the School itself.This has most certainly been true of Professor Carruthers leadership and that of the previous Deans of the School and it is a tradition that continues with Professor Kim's appointment."

   Dr. Michael Kim is a well respected recitalist, chamber performer, concerto soloist, teacher, adjudicator and clinician.The Boston Globe stated of his performances that "Kim was most effective and expressive… he has a big technique and a razor sharp attack."And with accolades such as this, Michael will continue performing, and contributing to the Canada's musical landscape as both performer and now, academic administrator.
   
   A veteran concerto soloist, Michael has performed with the Boston and Cincinnati Pops, Royal Scottish National Orchestra and BBC Scottish Symphony, Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, and repeated appearances with such symphonies as Toronto, Vancouver, London, Edmonton, Victoria, Calgary, Regina, Saskatoon, Florida, Oklahoma City, Green Bay and Milwaukee.
   
   As a recitalist and chamber musician, Michael has appeared in every major Canadian city, and throughout the US, UK, South America, and Asia.He has also been a featured guest artist at the summer festivals of Brevard, Aspen, Banff, Huntsville, and Heifetz (Annapolis, MD).He frequently collaborates with his wife, pianist Dr. Kyungran Kim, and his performances and recordings are frequently broadcast on the radio networks of CBC, NPR, BBC, KBS, and Chicago's WFMT's Live From WFMT.He can be heard on critically acclaimed recordings for the CRI, Summit and Orpheum Masters labels.

   A graduate of Calgary's Academy of Music at Mount Royal College, Michael completed undergraduate studies at the University of Calgary under Marilyn Engle.

   Dr. Kim was formerly Chair of the Keyboard Department, and Faculty Associate to the President at the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music in Appleton, Wisconsin where he has been on faculty since 1996.In recognition of his contribution to the Lawrence community area, Dr. Kim was recipient of the 1999 Fox Valley Arts Alliance Sam Napuck Award for "outstanding achievement by an artist in the performing, visual, and/or literary arts."
   
   Dr. Kim and his wife Kyungran, have a six-year-old son, William.
