The audience of 250 investors, made up of venture capitalists, private investors, bankers, technology transfer experts, and corporate and professional. executives from Tennessee, the Southeast and elsewhere in the country, will be able to examine a diverse menu of companies seeking investments from $1.5 million to more than $12 million, says Kim.

He says law firms are also interested in attending the forum because of the opportunities to form relationships with emerging companies.

Many of the sponsors provided recommendations and feedback for the forum early on, says Kim, and they also suggested companies as potential presenters.

The prime purpose for the Venture Forum is very clearly to connect the best . . . technology companies in Tennessee and surrounding region with potential investors , said Drew Kim , TTDC assistant director.

One of Diaz's neighbors in EmergeMemphis , Geobot , will be among the companies making presentations at this forum.Geobot developed software that enables various types of computer systems to share information instantaneously.

Kim said : I think it's important to realize that no matter how difficult the environment is , ideas and startup companies are continuing to grow..

Memphis-based Delta Capital Partners led venture capitalists to invest $2.2 million in Geobot during the third quarter.

In fact , Delta Capital Partners invested the lion's share - $5.2 million - in Mid-South companies during the quarter.

It took 18 months to raise the money , said Drew Kim , assistant director of the Tennessee Technology Development Corp. , which is involved in starting the fund.The TennesSeed Fund is expected to begin operations in June.

Tennessee company funded at $7.75 million as a result of Venture Capital Conference

In June, Knoxville-based Sarcon Microsystems breathed a huge sigh of relief as they finalized a $7.75 million investment primarily from two firms, located in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Atlanta.

Through a contact made at last year's Tennessee Venture Capital Conference, Sarcon met up with Ardesta, an Ann Arbor firm specializing in similar computer microsystems.
