    Prof. D. Y. Kim has earned his BS degree from the Department of Electronics Engineering, Seoul National University in 1975, and his MS and Ph. D degree from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology in 1977 and 1983, respectively.

    He has worked with Chungnam National Universigy since 1983 and is now Professor of Dept. of Information Communications Engineering.He has experience of working with Aachen University and Honnover University as co-worker during his Ph. D. courses.He was also a visiting scholar to UC Davis in the 1987-1888 academic year.

    His main research area is protocols for NGI(next generation Internet) and high-speed networking, and is also interested in line codes for high speed optical transimission.His main contributions are in mulitcast transport protocols and minimum-bandwidth line coding.He is author of more than 220 technical papers and 20 patents.

    He has long been active in international standadization activities, especially through ITU-T SG17 and ISO/IEC JTC1/SC6.He was the editor for the international standard ITU-T Rec.X.605 / ISO/IEC Std.13252 (ECTS: Enhanced Communications Transport Service) and is the editor for some of its extension protocols including ITU-T X.605-3 & 5 / ISO/IEC 10747-3 & 5 ECTP(Enhanced Communications Transport Protocol) - Duplex & N-plex.

    He is active in many voluntary activities and was chair of many groups including OSIA(Open Standards and Internet Association), Internet-KIG(Korea Interest Group), KIEF(Korea Internet Engineering Forum), and is now CEO of ANF(Advanced Network Forum), an incorporation of APAN-KR.

    He was also involved in academic funding agencies and was Director of Basic Technology of IITA(Institiute of Information Technology Assessment) and Program Director of Information Technology of KOSEF(Korea Science and Engineering Foundation).

    Prof. D. Y. Kim is a member of various academic/non-academic societies including KITE, KICS, KISS, ACM SIGCOM, ISOC, and is a Senior Member of IEEE.He was chair of IEEE Daejeon Section, IEEE Communications Chapter and is Treasurer of IEEE Region 10.
