Plasma, the liquid portion of the blood, contains proteins that aid coagulation in patients receiving transfusions as part of their medical or surgical care.PLAS+SD is a pooled product derived from whole blood collected from volunteer donors.The pooled plasma is solvent/detergent treated which dissolves or "scrubs" the fatty coatings from certain viruses, reliably inactivating these while leaving the needed plasma proteins intact.PLAS+SD is distributed by the American Red Cross and is manufactured by V.I. Dr. Sanobar Khan is originally from Karachi, Pakistan, and is a graduate of Dow Medical College, University of Karachi.She was Associate Medical Director, Blood Bank, Evanston Hospital, and did a Fellowship in Immunohernatology at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, as well as her Anatomic and Clinical Pathology residency.Dr. Khan is Assistant Professor of Pathology at Rush University Medical College, Chicago, Illinois and Board certified by the American Board of Pathology in both Anatomic (1995) and Clinical (1988) Pathology, as well as Blood BankingfTransfusion Medicine (1990).She is an Inspector for the American Association of Blood Banks.Dr. Khan holds various committee appointments and society memberships and lectures extensively.
