    Sanaullah Khan, a former chairman of the association, said he had visited Buner, Swat and other war-torn areas where 30,000 labourers had been rendered jobless in factories.

    He said in Buner alone, 350 factories and 50 actively working mines had been closed. As many as 30,000 tons of raw material used to arrive daily from 50 mines in Buner.

    He was of the view that 10,000 to 15,000 workers had lost jobs after the closure of mines in Buner, Swat and other areas.

    Sanaullah Khan, chairman All Pakistan Marble Mining Processing Industry and Export Association (APMMPIEA), said the association would soon convene a meeting of all stakeholders to discuss the freight hike by the IPBCC.

    He said Pakistan's exports of marble and stone would suffer a setback, but this increase in freight rates would mostly affect the stone exporters.

    He said according to shipping companies, these increased rates would be effective until January 2006 only.He said this indicated that IPBCC would further increase the freight charges after January next year.
