Bob Ketchum takes viewers back in Mountain Home history again with his latest DVD release featuring films from the 1950s."From the Archives" is a follow-up to Ketchum's 2006 release of the DVD "This Is Your Town."

"From the Archives" features two films shot by the late Ed Pinkston and Garvin Carroll, two modern Mountain Home pioneers.Ketchum, a Baxter County native and media entrepreneur, has transferred their movies from film to DVD.

Pinkston's portion of the DVD features a 50-minute, 8mm film he shot circa 1957, according to Ketchum.Pinkston, a longtime local educator, died in 1991.While Ketchum said the 8mm isn't quite the same as the 16mm professional film used for "This Is Your Town," "but it's still a great find nevertheless.

"This film is centered more around the residents of Mountain Home," said Ketchum, who produced the DVD at his Cedar Crest Studios in Henderson."It is less about businesses and more about people.Ed takes the camera inside many of the homes and features prominent citizens and their families.

"It is a gold mine for nostalgia buffs as all the furniture, appliances, technology and fashion of the era are prominently displayed on the screen, and in color," he said.

Ketchum said the music soundtrack that accompanies the silent film is his mother at the piano."The music fits the mood of the film perfectly," he said.

Carroll's is a 56-minute, 8mm film from his collection that Ketchum said he gave to him before his death earlier this year.Carroll had been the local Arkansas Power and Light manager for many years and was active in the Baxter County Historical and Genealogical Society. His movie is about the Mountain Home First Baptist Church and its congregation.

"It follows many of the functions and activities of the church throughout the year 1959," said Ketchum."The families represented here make the core of Mountain Home's founding fathers. Many of the children seen in Sunday school class in the film are today's movers and shakers in our community."

Copies of "From the Archives" are available at Mountain Home Area Chamber of Commerce, Baxter County Library and from the Historical Society. The price is $15, with $5 of each sale going to the place of sales origin, said Ketchum.

For more information, Ketchum can be contacted at Cedar Crest Studios, 488-5777, or through the Web site at www.cedarcreststudio.com.

"Historic gem" showcases Mountain Home in 1955 - [Cached Version]

Bob Ketchum says he's found a video time capsule -- a professional film, made in 1955, that stars Mountain Home and its residents.Ketchum -- owner of Cedar Crest Studio audio-video production company in Henderson -- has spent hundreds of hours restoring the silent, black-and-white, 16-millimeter film, apparently commissioned by local business people of the time to showcase their businesses and the city, circa December 1955. The film features business and community leaders, plus scores of regular folks at the beauty parlor, the grocery store, the lumber company, and the car lot.School children parade hand-in-hand for the camera, which was also set up at the old Baxter Theater to pan an audience filled with local faces.Ketchum was one of the kids in the theater, and it's been a labor of love for him to restore the film, which will be available to the public later this month at the Mountain Home Area Chamber of Commerce.

Ketchum says one highlight is footage of the westside of the Mountain Home Square with the buildings intact, including the Morgan Theater and Angler's Cafe. Those buildings are gone now, replaced by the veterans memorial park.

Ketchum has made three versions, making revisions after he learns the identities of more people and adding their names to the 76-minute-long film.He says C-Ds of the film will be available later this month at the chamber of commerce for 15-dollars each.

C-Ds will also be available at the Baxter County Library and the Baxter County Historical Society.Ketchum added a special bonus film to the C-D -- a fun color short made by his father in the early '50s titled "Razorback Rainbows," about a fictitious fishing contest.Ketchum -- who has collected reams of local footage over the years -- wants the C-D release to be the beginning of a video history of Baxter County.

Bob Ketchum produces his own album
    ...
Bob Ketchum might be the next overnight sensation after, well, a whole lot of years working in the music business.

After making a career of recording other performers and bands, Ketchum finally produced a collection of his own music and it's now available to the public.
    ...
Ketchum is a man of varied talents. He's worked as a musician since he was a teen-ager, playing various instruments and doing vocals with assorted groups and on his own. He has a gold record for his work as a drummer on Freddy Fender's hit, Wasted Days and Wasted Nights.

In addition, Ketchum has produced recordings for various groups and individuals, including bands such as the late '70s metal group Krokus. He's worked as a radio personality and, for several years, has operated his own video studio, doing everything from commercial videos to court depositions to music videos.

Through all that, Ketchum has continued with his first love, music. He's performed with his own groups, provided backup work for other performers and written songs. It's those songs Ketchum has written that provides the nucleus for New Tricks From an Old Dog.

"I wanted to call it Old Tricks From a New Dog, but when I tried to say it, it kept coming out New Tricks From an Old Dog," said Ketchum.

New Tricks From an Old Dog has a lengthy history. Some of the numbers Ketchum wrote and recorded as long ago as the early 1980s and have spent their lives on the shelf, or in a shoe box, or wherever Ketchum could store them. He said the songs have been recorded in three different formats, including 8-track and 16-track masters.

Ketchum said he kept putting off doing anything with his songs while he was recording other people's music for them and working as a videographer and occasionally performing. He finally decided it was time to do something with his own material and brought it together for his first album.

Because the songs span such a wide period of time -- from the early '80s to now -- Ketchum was afraid some might sound dated, but so far they've been well received by those who have heard them.

Ketchum's music is a blend of styles -- blues, Southern rock, dance rhythms and more. It features Ketchum on vocals and instruments.
