Springer Opera House general manager Jamie Fagerstrom, left, and operations manager Allie Kent have utilized their friendship and laughter in their battle against cancer.
...
Jamie Fagerstrom and Allie Kent have gone through a lot during the 10 years they've been best friends.
...
Then on Jan. 22, 2007, Fagerstrom got a call from Kent who was at her doctor's office.
...
Kent had just been diagnosed with breast cancer and her first call was to Fagerstrom.
...
"I was upset for about 30 seconds," Kent said."Then, I thought, 'Free boob job.' My second thought was I'd lose weight."
It was that kind of humor that helped Kent through the diagnosis, surgery and treatment. And, of course, Fagerstrom's friendship and support.
...
Kent is a Columbus native who graduated from Hardaway High School, Columbus State University and the University of Georgia.
They became fast friends.Fagerstrom was the financial officer; Kent is the operations manager.
...
"Let me tell you," Kent began."I felt a lump.
...
On top of all that, Kent doesn't have a family history of breast cancer.
...
When Kent was finally sent to a specialist -- it was cancer.
...
"Then everything comes to a screeching stop," Kent said.
