Alvin Kennedy
CAMBRIDGE, N.Y. - Alvin "Al" Kennedy, 81, died May 10, 2004, at home with cancer.
He was born June 17, 1922, in Bennington, Vt., the son of Alvin and Alila (Carpenter) Kennedy.
He graduated from Bennington High School in 1941.
He married Elizabeth Myers on April 2, 1945, in North Bennington.
Mr. Kennedy served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a radio operator on submarine and on patrol planes on flights in the Caribbean.
After the war, he worked for New England Telephone Co. for 18 months and then re-enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving as a radio operator on command aircraft and heavy bombers.He retired in 1962 as senior master sergeant.
He owned and operated a janitorial service in Ridgewood, N.J., until 1979 and later purchased and operated the Blue Willow Motel in Cambridge until selling it in 1984.
Mr. Kennedy was a member of the Knights of Columbus and American Legion, both in Cambridge.
He enjoyed flying, oil painting, short wave radio and sports.He also enjoyed music and played the base viola in many local bands in the 1930s and '40s.
