Sean M. Kelly

Sean Kelly was named director of new business development for The Kendal Corp. of Kennett Square.

Kelly will begin work at Kendal on Sept. 1.

Previously, Kelly was a principal of development for Connecticut-based Retirement Living Services, a consulting firm providing planning, development, marketing, financing and management services primarily to not-for-profit sponsors of continuing-care retirement communities.

After the meeting, Sean Kelly, senior vice president of Retirement Living Services (RLS), the company contracted to build and maintain the CCRC, said the 344,000 figure is no longer in play and that under the new reduced plan very little dirt would have to be removed.

He also said there is no law prohibiting development on Planning Area 5 land providing it is sensitive to environmental concerns.

They noted, and Kelly confirmed, the cost for a resident to purchase housing at the CCRC would be from $400,000 to $1.4 million.

After the meeting Kelly said the DEP would begin the closure process on the application on Jan. 20 and should have a decision within 30 to 90 days after that.

Sean joined RLS in 1998 with an intensive background in construction management, design/build and project management.Once with RLS, he has managed the development of Piper Shores in Scarborough, Maine, and has since managed one of the largest start-up continuing care retirement community (CCRC) projects of its kind — The Hill at Whitemarsh in Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania.

Prior to joining RLS, Sean was Director of Business Development for The Norwood Company (a construction manager), where he was in charge of developing networks and building alliances within the health care and long-term care industries.Prior to joining the Norwood Company, Sean worked as a Project Manager for J. Fletcher Creamer and as Assistant Project Manager for the L. F. Driscoll Company.

Sean earned his undergraduate degree from Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pennsylvania, completed graduate work toward an M.B.A. at Rutgers University and studied construction management at Drexel University.

Sean will commence work with Kendal on September 1, 2008 and comes to Kendal from serving as Principal of Development for Connecticut-based Retirement Living Services (RLS), a consulting firm providing planning, development, marketing, financing and management services primarily to not-for-profit sponsors of continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs). Sean joined RLS in 1998 as Vice President for Development where he was responsible for CCRC development and project management. Over the course of the last 10 years, Sean has directed all aspects of CCRC project development activities from the conceptual stages, including pre-development activities and land acquisition, to marketing, finance, construction, occupancy and project closeout. A graduate from Ursinus College, Collegeville, PA, Sean began his professional career in construction management and contracting. Sean grew to take a position with a Philadelphia based construction management firm where he was responsible for identifying and securing new business as well as project management oversight. During his tenure there, Sean was exposed to the development and construction of a large CCRC, which prompted him to study and move more deeply into the healthcare and senior living markets for business and development opportunities. While attending an annual meeting of the New Jersey Association of NonProfit Homes for the Aging, Sean was first introduced to the CEO and Co-Founder of RLS. From there his career tightened its focus exclusively in the area of senior housing and development and since then Sean has been closely involved with several notable projects including: Piper Shores in Maine, The Huntington at Nashua in New Hampshire, and The Hill at Whitemarsh and Makemie Ridge both in Pennsylvania.

In his new capacity at Kendal, Sean will assume responsibility for leading organizational efforts aimed at creating new opportunities for growth in serving existing and new populations of seniors through affiliations, and by developing new communities. Sean will also assist existing Kendal Affiliates in achieving their growth objectives.
