    Tasmanian ASU identities help shape ALP future 24 August 2006

    Sean Kelly, Secretary of the ASU Tasmanian Branch, was elected to the position of ALP Tasmanian President recently. Former Industrial Officer of the Tassie ASU Branch, Catryna Bilyk, has also won preselection to the number three spot on the ALP Senate ticket. These positions recognise Sean and Catryna's efforts in relation to Tasmanian working people.

    ASU Branch Secretary elected to Tasmanian ALP Presidency

    On being elected, Sean said, "This is a great opportunity to support the continued development of stability in the ALP in Tasmania, whilst providing positive and supportive leadership for ALP members from all Branches and affiliated unions in Tasmania."

    This new role for Sean will mean a higher profile for the concerns of ASU members and will thus complement his role as Tasmanian Branch Secretary.

    ASU National Secretary, Paul Slape, congratulated Sean on his election to the ALP position and said, "Given the current Federal Government's hostility toward ordinary people through its new workplace laws, it is important that unionists like Sean take a leading role in the ALP, our partner in ensuring a fairer future for all Australians.

    Branch Secretary, Sean Kelly, together with Industrial Officer Margaret Midgley &Training Development Officer Catryna Bilyk, is about to embark on a series of regional meetings for local government delegates.
